Just about a year ago, singer Avril Lavigne contracted Lyme disease, an infectious disease transmitted by the bite of a tick infected with Borrelia burgdorferi. For months, she wasn’t sure what was making her sick, due to the fact that Lyme disease is hard to diagnose.
At J.P. McHale Pest Management, Inc., we hope to spread awareness about Lyme disease, because if it is left untreated, it can be fatal.
Symptoms of Lyme Disease & Why It Is Important to Catch Early On
In order for a person to catch Lyme disease, they must be bitten by an infected tick who has been latched on their body for about 36 hours. The issue is that symptoms can develop anywhere from three to 30 days, depending on the person. The following are the most common symptoms of someone who has contracted Lyme disease:
● Bull’s-eye rash that can develop at one or more places on a person’s body
● Body aches
● Severe headaches
● Joint pain
● Neurological problems
● Heart palpitations
Lyme Disease Treatment
When an individual is diagnosed with Lyme disease in the early stages, they are prescribed antibiotics that may include amoxicillin, doxycycline or cefuroxime axetil that allow them to recover completely and rapidly.
